Eligibility

New Worlds Reading serves Florida's eligible striving readers.

To be eligible, students must be:

VPK - 5th graders who are not yet meeting grade level expectations in reading in Florida VPK programs, public schools, and charter schools.

How do I know if my child is not yet making age-appropriate progress or not yet reading on grade level?

Students in VPK are not yet making age-appropriate progress if:
- they score below the 40th percentile on FAST Star Early Literacy,
- or they are exempt from taking FAST Star Early Literacy.
Students in grades K - 2 are not yet reading on grade level if:
- they score below the 40th percentile on FAST Star Early Literacy/Reading,
- they are exempt from FAST Star Early Literacy/Reading testing,
- or they receive Tier 2 or Tier 3 Reading Intervention Support (as reported by districts in Survey 2 and Survey 3). ]
Students in grades 3 - 5 are not yet reading on grade level if:
- they score below Level 3 on FAST assessments,
- take the Florida Alternate Assessment (FAA) instead of FAST assessments,
- or receive Tier 2 or Tier 3 Reading Intervention Support (as reported by districts in Survey 2 and Survey 3)

After you submit an application, our team will match it to your child's education records to confirm their eligibility. This process may take up to several months.

VPK or Kindergarten students without scores available

If you are the caregiver for an incoming VPK or Kindergarten student who does not yet have testing data available, you can apply early! There will just be a waiting period until we receive their student data.

Late Enrollment due to incorrect information

To avoid enrollment delays, applications should list a student’s full, legal name (no nicknames or abbreviations) the student's date of birth, grade level, district, and school.

Unable to confirm eligibility despite meeting criteria

If you receive an email saying we can't confirm your child's eligibility yet, but your child meets all of the necessary eligibility criteria, then we may have a delay in receiving their data. Please don't send us any records of your own! Due to student privacy requirements, we can only receive student records from the state.

While you wait for your child's eligibility to be confirmed, you can check out our free resources for all families here. If we confirm your child is eligible, you'll still receive all 9 books and activities for that year!

Once you're enrolled, you're set through fifth grade!

You'll never need to reapply.

Once an eligible student is enrolled, they remain enrolled through fifth grade, even if their reading scores improve! You do not need to reapply each year.

Plus, we have great news if you apply for an ineligible child: If they become eligible at any time before they graduate fifth grade, you'll be notified and they will automatically begin receiving books!

Families will be unenrolled if they move out of Florida, and caregivers can choose to unenroll a child by emailing support@newworldsreading.com.
